Yankees Lose at Home... to the Sox!!!

Easiest way to say it: the Sox raped the Yankees! Usually the YES Network likes to replay the games the Yankees just played; do they dare re-air this routing? They do! Stay tuned at 11:30 PM.

It's also great listening to these Yankees commentators discussing how Randy Johnson played a great game when he blatantly sucked like Rick Vaughn before he got his trendy red glasses. Go Sox!

I had the unfortunate experience of watching the game on YES thanks to DirecTV, however I thought Kay, Kaat, and O'Neil did a fair job in announcing the game. They noted that Johnson couldn't locate, had no faith in his fastball, and looked generally lost on the mound.
I think him throwing a 3-2 slider to Youk to open the game and then Loretta getting the green light on 3-0 highlighted the problems with Johnson. Unlike Schilling, Johnson seems to have no faith in his heater at this point and is relying on breaking balls to get the swings and misses. With a fastball in the high 80's to low 90's (Posada's 101 mph statement was bunk) and a slider in the mid 80's - you're not going to fool too many hitters.
At Johnson's stage in his career he needs to establish the fastball away and inside early in the game and use his breaking pitches sparingly - b/c he's lost a lot of bite on that slider down and in to righties. He should really study Schilling and how he's taken his game to a new level since losing 3-4 mph consistently on his heater. #38 does have a few bullets in his gun to hit 96 or so - but the majority of the time it is 91-93 w/ the fastball but hitting spots and having trust in your sh*t. Johnson doesn't have any and that's why he's struggling.

Beckett looked phenomenal last night

pitching staff does look strong - another yankee injury or two and this team could start to gain a good lead. Hopefully the mets will take the Yanks this weekend!
